Sept 12-16

This week in Grade 5, we are diving into our curriculum with a Bootcamp theme.

In Math, we are reviewing times table facts, from 1×1 to 10×10, with a different focus each day, learning the tips and tricks, and playing army-themed games.

In Language Arts, we are reviewing common and proper nouns, and pronouns. We are also learning about main idea and supporting details. We have started a novel study on Shiloh, and will be starting a biography project where we interview a classmate and write about them. We are also working on building our reading stamina.

In Bible, we are beginning to look at who we are in God’s eyes. We have our first chapel on Tuesday, and our first BMV, Philippians 4:13, is due Friday.

In Science, we are starting our first unit on rocks and minerals. This ties into our field trip next Thursday, where we will look at Margaret Falls and discuss how the rock was formed. Field trip forms went home today.

In Social Studies, we are talking about Queen Elizabeth and how she was tied to Canada and it’s government, as we start our unit on Government.

We will be starting an art project this week, and having our first buddies activity with Grade 2.

We will also be continuing to get to know each other and learning routines and expectations for Grade 5.

Any students who wishes to be house leader needs to hand in their application letter by this Friday.

Next Monday is Pirate Day, so students are encouraged to dress like a pirate!
